CAIRO – 16 January 2018: Liverpool Croatian defender, Dejan Lovren, believes that his team deserved the 4-3 victory over Manchester City on Sunday to end City’s unbeaten record in the League this season.
“We showed from the first minute that we deserved this win. It was an unbelievable match to play in. We showed our quality from the beginning, we believed from the first second," Lovren told Liverpool official website after the game.
Liverpool opened the score after nine minutes through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Leroy Sane equalized before the half time.
In the second half, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah scored three goals to render the score 4-1 before Man City scored two goals through Elkay Gundogan and Sergio Aguero to end the game 4-3.
Lovren spoke about the two goals they received in the last minutes. “In the last 15 minutes we shouldn’t have dropped too deep, maybe it was automatic as we were defending together. But we learned from previous games.”
Liverpool jumped to third place with 47 points and they decreased the gap with the leaders, Manchester City to 15 points.
