CAIRO – 13 January 2018: Egypt national handball team manager Marwan Ragab announced on Saturday the names of Egypt’s national team who will travel to Gabon to participate in the 2018 African Men's Handball Championship.
Ragab’s chosen squad consists of Karim Hindawy, Mohamed Ali, Omar Al Wakil, Mohamed Essam, Karim Ayman, Islam Hassan, Muhab Hossam, Abo El Fotoh Ahmed, Mamdouh Taha, Mohamed Ibrahem, Yehya Khaled, Ibrahim El Masry, Wesam Samy, Mohamed Sanad, Mohamed Mamdouh, Mohamed Ramadan, Ali Zeyn and Ahmed Al Ahmar.
The draw was held in November and put Egypt in Group B alongside Angola, Morocco, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Egypt, the reigning champions, will open their participation in the tournament by playing against Morocco on Wednesday, January 17, before facing Nigeria the day after.
The Egyptian team will rest for two days before meeting Angola on Sunday, January 21. Egypt will then play their last game in the first stage against the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Monday.
The best three teams in the tournament will qualify to the 2019 Men's World Handball Championship in Denmark and Germany.
Three Arab nations monopolized the gold medal since the tournament’s inception. Tunisia won nine titles, Algeria won seven titles and Egypt won six titles.
Gabon hosts the 23rd edition of the tournament between January 17 and January 27, 2018.
