CAIRO – 12 January: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola revealed on Friday that the club’s Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus, will be fit for the Champions League game against Basel.
“He was in Barcelona this week and the news is quite good. I think two or three weeks and he could be ready to play against Basel in the Champions League," Guardiola told press on Friday.
Jesus picked up a knee injury during Manchester City’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on December 31.
Gaurdiola spoke about Man City’s trip to face Liverpool at Anfield, saying, “Liverpool is such an important game; to realize again if we are able to do big things in this season, in important stages, in the Champions League. Hopefully we can do better than last season. That is our target, and to show courage.”
Guardiola and his team lost 1-0 at their last trip to Anfield Stadium, thanks to a goal from Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
Manchester City tops the Premier League table after 22 games, with 62 points after 20 victories and two games ending with a draw.
