CAIRO – 7 January 2018: The English Football Federation (FA) has decided to investigate the alleged racist slurs used by Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, following a complaint filed by Everton defender Mason Holgate.

The incident took place in the last derby on Friday between Liverpool and Everton in the FA Cup in Anfield.

Liverpool defeated Everton 2-1 in the FA Cup on Friday, as the new Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk scored the winning goal in the 84th minute.

In a clash between the two players, the Liverpool striker fell on the stands and a tough argument between both players began, which required the intervention of other players and even the referee, Robert Madley, to separate them and prevent further clashes.

Holgate complained to the referee that the Brazilian attacker had used racist terms during the altercation.

The FA has already taken the necessary measures and announced that it will initiate an investigation to clarify the case.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp expressed his surprise about the incident.

"The fourth referee told me something, but I understood that what they were going to investigate was Holgate's action during the game," Klopp said.

"I did not hear the words, so I cannot say anything," he added.
