CAIRO – 6 January 2018: Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, announced on his official Twitter account that he will formally ask the Premier League and the FA to investigate the transfer of Ross Barkley to Chelsea.

The Mayor (an Everton supporter) wants the top English football organizations to investigate the operation because of suspicions of collusion between Chelsea and Barkley.

Chelsea recently signed Barkley for £15 million (€17 million), when only a few months ago Everton had demanded £35 million for discarding the footballer, who has spent 11 years in Goodison Park since he joined Everton’s academy.

Chelsea did not accept the initial price demanded by Everton last summer. Barkley has not yet played this season due to an alleged injury.

Joe Anderson understands that the injury was a joint strategy between the footballer and Chelsea to lower the price.

Barkley was a player valued and loved in Everton, but in the last phase of the last season, he faced problems that led him to request a transfer.

Chelsea showed great interest from the outset to sign him, but the clubs did not reach an agreement in the summer.

The 24-year-old has signed a contract for five and a half years and will wear the number 8 shirt.
