CAIRO – 4 January 2017: Manchester United’s former defender, Gary Neville believes that the transfer of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool to Barcelona would be a huge loss for the club.

“To lose him now could have a terrible impact on their season. Liverpool is too big a football club to let one player mess them around,” Neville told Sky Sports.

Coutinho has been linked with a move to Barcelona last summer but Liverpool rejected the huge offer of $140 million.

Neville added “To be fair, I wouldn't say they won't make the top four if he goes, but the impact off the pitch and in the dressing room - along with a loss of skill on the pitch - will be huge.”

Coutinho had a great start with Liverpool this season and he has formed a destructive partnership in the attacking line alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Coutinho scored 12 goals, and provided eight assists with Liverpool this season.
