CAIRO – 30 December 2017: Zamalek beat Al-Assiouti 1-0 in the 16th round of the Egyptian league thanks to Kasongo Kabongo’s goal in the 77th minute of the match.
Zamalek was the most dangerous in the first half, and the first threat was in the 6th minute after a breakthrough from Zamalek`s midfielder Mohamed Al-Shami from the left side of the pitch. Shami then passed the ball to his teammate Youssef Obama. Obama’s shot was met by Al-Assiouti’s goalkeeper Ahmed Dador’s foot.
In the 42nd minute, Benjamin Ashembong, Zamalek’s striker, was alone face to face with Dador after a pass from Obama, but his shot which was blocked by Dador wasted what might have been Zamalek’s most dangerous chance.
In the 60th minute of the second half, Zamalek’s coach Jovovic Nebosja made his first substitution in the match; he gave the chance to Kasongo Kabongo instead of Obama in the hope of greater offensive activity.
Kabongo did not let down his coach as he scored the only goal of the match after he received the ball from his teammate Shami to put it in Dador’s net.
Zamalek settled in the fourth place of the Egyptian League’s table standings with 28 points. Zamalek had 8 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses until now in their journey in the Egyptian league.
