CAIRO – 2 April 2017: Newly-elected President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ahmed El Ahmed will arrive in Cairo April 8 to assume his duties as the new CAF chief,
reported Sunday.
Preparations are underway for Ahmed and Egyptian Sports Minister Khaled Abdel Aziz to meet following Ahmed’s arrival in Cairo, the report added.
Ahmed, who was formerly Madagascar's football chief, became the seventh CAF president after defeating Issa hayatou in the CAF elections in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in March.
Since 1988, Hayatou remained on top of African football for almost 29 solid years.
The Egyptian Football Association released a
on its official Face book page saying the CAF headquarters will remain in Egypt and that any reports of moving headquarters have “no basis in truth.”
Several news outlets previously reported that Hayatou was considering moving the CAF headquarters from Egypt to either Morocco or Ethiopia following his recent legal dispute with Egyptian officials over monopoly practices by giving the exclusive rights to Lagardère Sports agency to broadcast the main football African competitions for 20 years.
