CAIRO – 9 December: The International Tennis Federation has named Rafael Nadal as the best player of the 2017 season, and Nadal will receive the award for the third time in his career.
His compatriot Garbiñe Muguruza won the best tennis player award, and the best doubles champion went to Poland's Lukasz Kubot, Brazil's Marcelo Melo in the men's class, Martina Hingis of Switzerland and Taiwan's Chan Yung-jan in the women's category.
The awards will be presented at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Champions' Gala Dinner on 5 June 2018 in Paris during the Roland Garros Championship.
Rafael Nadal's unforgettable season came to a painful end when he withdrew from the ATP Finals with a knee injury after defeat in his opening round-robin match against David Goffin on Monday.
Nadal has been plagued by knee injuries throughout a career which has earned him 16 grand slam titles.
