CAIRO – 8 December 2017: On Thursday, Barcelona’s Argentinean defender, Javier Mascherano revealed his reasons for wanting to leave Barcelona in January.

“I've had 11 muscular injuries in the last few months and I think that's because of the lack of continuity [in the lineup]," Mascherano, who missed all the Barcelona games in the last month due to a muscular injury, told TYC.

Mascherano lost his starting position at Barcelona to the French defender, Samuel Umtiti, who joined the club in 2016.

Mascherano, 33, added “I lost the importance I'd had in previous years, it cannot be denied. It was some time ago that I mentioned within the club that the situation I have to live through is nobody's fault, but simply a reality.”

Mascherano joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2010 and has been a regular player in the team’s starting line-up.

Mascherano helped Barcelona win two UEFA Champions League titles in 2011 and 2015, as well as four Spanish League titles.
