CAIRO – 6 December 2017: National team weightlifter Shaymaa Khalaf won the silver medal of the snatch competitions in the 90+ kilograms category in the Weightlifting World Championship. The championship was held in the United States.

Shaymaa also won the bronze medal of the total weight she had lift in the same category as well.

Shaymaa started her World Championship preparation program like the rest of the team late in April, before the start of the Islamic Solidarity Games. It was the first national team gathering since the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in August 2016, according to Al Ahram Sport.

She participated earlier in the Islamic Solidarity Games and the African Championship, and won three gold medals in total in both tournaments.

Egypt's weightlifter Sara Samir also copped the gold medal in the International World Federation (IWF) championship in Anaheim, California.

She lifted 136 kilograms in the clean and jerk after she failed in three previous snatch attempts.

On Saturday, Egyptian weightlifter Mohamed Ihab gave the country its first gold medal at the World Championship in 66 years, winning three golds in Anaheim.

Ihab emerged the winner in the snatch, and clean and jerk and the total results in the men’s 77 kilograms category to make history for Egypt.
