CAIRO – 3 December 2017: The Egyptian weight lifter Mohamed Ihab, the national team player, won three gold medals Saturday in the 77-kilogram bodyweight category at the Weight Lifting World Championship held in the United States.

Ihab managed to gain the gold medals in the Snatch and clean & jerk competitions. The total weight he has lifted led him to occupy first place; winning him the third medal in the World Championship.

The Egyptian champion became the first World Champion from Africa in a men’s event since 1984, when Nigeria’s Orok Oliver won a Snatch gold in the 100-kilogram category.

Egypt participates in the World Championship with only five players who are Ahmed Saad, Ragab Abdel Hay, Mohamed Ihab, Shaymaa Khalaf and Sara Samir, who also copped the gold medal after she succeeded in lifting 136 kilograms in the clean & jerk competition.
