Gremio crowned Copa Libertadores champions for the third time

CAIRO – 30 November 2017: Gremio defeated Lanus 2-1 on Wednesday night in Estadio Ciudad de Lanús, Argentina, and secured their third Copa Libertadores title.

Gremio repeated their victory over Lanus in the first leg in Brazil and secured their third title in the tournament; Gremio had one the last game 1-0.

Gremio entered the game with a great attacking line of Lucas Barrios, Luan Vieira and Luiz Fernando known as Fernandinho. Gremio scored first through a great strike from Fernandinho at 27 minute.

Luan doubled the score after he dribbled three Lanus players and chipped the ball over Lanus goalkeeper, Esteban Andrada.

In the second half, Jose Sand scored Lanus’ only goal through a penalty, just 15 minutes before the final whistle.

Lanus tried to equalize the score in the remaining time but they failed, and the game ended 2-1 for the Brazilian side.

Gremio celebrated the victory after the game and returned home on Thursday to celebrate their title with their fans in Porto Alegre.

Gremio will represent South America at FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi in December.
