CAIRO – 23 November 2017: Brazil’s Gremio defeated Argentina’s Lanus 1-0 at Copa Libertadores’ final first leg on Thursday at the Estadio Olimpico Monumental de Porto Alegre in Brazil.

Gremio players entered the pitch with the support of their enthusiastic fans packing the stadium and cheering unstoppably throughout the entire game.

Lanus was the better side in the first half and they have created many chances to score, but Gremio’s goalkeeper, Marcelo Grohe, saved all the chances to end the first half 0-0.

In the second half, Gremio’s performance improved and they were able to reach Lanus area, managing to score the only goal in the game at minute 83 by the substitute, Cícero Santos.

The second leg is scheduled to be played in Argentina on November 29.
Gremio plays the fifth final in their history; they won the title in 1983 and 1995 while they lost it in 1984 and 2007.

Lanus hopes to be the ninth Argentinean club to win the title as Independiente, Boca Juniors, Estudiantes, River Plate, Racing, Argentinos Juniors, Velez Sarsfield, and San Lorenzo have all won the title before.
