CAIRO – 22 November 2017: The Saudi Arabia Football Federation (SAFF) announced on Wednesday that they sacked national team manager Edgardo Bauza.

“We terminated our relation with the national team manager, Edgardo Bauza, after extensive evaluation of the last stage of the national team under his command,” SAFF stated on Wednesday.

Bauza, from Argentina, was appointed Saudi Arabia’s national team manager following the sacking of their former Dutch manager, Bert van Marwijk, who led Saudi Arabia to qualify to the World Cup.

Saudi Arabia played five friendly games under Bauza’s command. They defeated Latvia and Jamaica, while they lost three games to Ghana, Bulgaria and Portugal.

SAFF’s statement added, “We are working on finishing the details with another manager to replace Bauza and lead the national team in the World Cup in Russia.”

Bauza failed in his third consecutive spell with national teams, as he was sacked from managing Argentina’s national team after six months. His spell with the UAE was even shorter, as he only managed the national team in four games.

Saudi Arabia qualified to the 2018 World Cup in Russia after 12 years of absence.
