CAIRO – 12 November 2017: Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentinean soccer team, has confessed that he regretted his decision to leave the Argentinean soccer team after being eliminated in the Copa América tournament in 2016.

The final match of Copa America in 2016 that Argentina lost to Chile hurt Messi a lot. Now, however, Messi has regained his joy and dreams of winning the 2018 World Cup with Argentina.

"I took the decision in the heat of the moment, but I was ashamed to say I wanted to go back," Messi acknowledged in a recent long interview with Direct TV Sports before the friendly match against Russia.

A late goal by Sergio Aguero lifted Argentina to a 1-0 win over World Cup, where hosted by Russia in the inaugural match at Moscow's newly-renovated Luzhniki Stadium on Saturday.

The help of the Argentinean coach, Pato Bauza, and Messi`s teammates were key in the return of Barcelona`s player to the national team: "The coach and my teammates made everything easier for me," Messi said in an interview with a television channel.

Now, at the gates of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and after having been qualified with the Argentinean team for the finals, Messi is much calmer.

"I take advantage of every moment, inside and outside the field, I am experiencing this moment with the national team in a different way," Messi stated.

Messi is set to cut down Argentina’s appearances in countdown to World Cup 2018.

"We play many games in the season; the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, La Liga, plus everything about the national team and the trips. I want to get to the World Cup in the best way." He confirmed.
