CAIRO – 11 November 2017: The 2018 World Cup is eight months away, and Russia has prepared for the huge event very well.
It has undertaken a series of major preparations for the expected event, including developing some of the stadiums in three major cities, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi, as well as eight other cities.
Egypt has finally qualified to the next World Cup after an absence of 28 years. Egypt defeated Congo 2-1 on October 8 at Borg El Arab Stadium, guaranteeing their spot in the tournament.
Russia hosts the World Cup for the first time in history, and it has a great opportunity to prove its ability to organize such an event.
It has two major stadiums that will host World Cup games, and one of them was opened on Saturday. The stadium is called Luzhniki Stadium.

Luzhniki Stadium was built in 1955 on the banks of Moskva River in Moscow. The stadium is considered one of the most famous sports facilities in Russia.
The stadium’s capacity is 81,000. However, it seated 102,000 fans during the USSR’s game against Italy in 1963.

Russia played the first match in this stadium after renovation against Argentina, which ended in a 1-0 loss, thanks to Kun Aguero.
The stadium was destroyed in 2013 in order to be rebuilt to host the games of the 2018 World Cup. Luzhniki Stadium will host the opening game in the World Cup on June 14.
