CAIRO – 03 November 2017: José Mourinho, former coach of Real Madrid and current coach of Manchester United, appeared on Friday in front of the Spanish courts.
Mourinho has been called to an open investigation in front the Court No. 4 of Pozuelo de Alarcón for crimes against the Spanish treasury during his tenure with Real Madrid in 2011 and 2012.
Mourinho arrived alone at 08:30 a.m. (GMT) surrounded by a large number of media and did so without speaking, for an appointment that was scheduled at 10 a.m..
The Public Prosecutor’s office has filed a complaint accusing him of defrauding €3.3 million ($3.84 million).
According to the Prosecutor's Office, Mourinho committed two crimes against the public treasury in relation to Personal Income Tax (IRPF) in 2011 and 2012, when he was training Real Madrid. The amount defrauded amounts to €3,304,670; €1,611,537 in 2011 and €1,693,133 in 2012).
"It's simple. I left Spain in 2013 with the information and conviction that my situation with the tax authorities was perfectly legal. A couple of years later I was told that they opened an investigation and they told me that in order to normalize my situation I had to pay X," Mourinho said according to Reuters.
"I didn't reply, I didn't argue. I paid and I signed with the state that I'm in compliance and that the case is closed. For this I was just here for five minute(s) to tell his excellence the judge exactly what I've told you. Nothing else," Mourinho added.
