CAIRO – 2 November 2017 : Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave hope to Arsenal’s French right back, Mathieu Debuchy, to earn more minutes with the team in the next games, but in a different position.

“Maybe his future is as a center back. He has the attributes, because, despite his size, he's very good in the air,” Wenger told press on Wednesday.

Debuchy joined Arsenal in 2014 from Newcastle United, but he lost his place to Arsenal’s promising talent, Hector Bellerin.

Wenger added, “You think he couldn't play center back because he's not tall, but if you look at the number of balls he wins in the air, it's impressive. We are all very pleased for him here, because he has gone through some very difficult moments with setbacks.”

Debuchy participated in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Norwich City in the Carabao Cup on October 24.

Debuchy hopes to earn more minutes in Arsenal to convince French national team manager Didier Deschamps to add him to the French squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Debuchy participated with France in the 2014 World Cup when the French national team lost 1-0 to Germany in the quarter-finals.
