Valverde recalls memories in Athens

CAIRO – 30 October 2017: Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde returns to Athens with Barcelona to meet Olympiacos on Tuesday in an emotional game for the Spanish manager.

Valverde made great memories with Barcelona’s opponent at Tuesday’s game.

The manager’s first spell with Olympiacos started in 2009, where he managed the team for only one year before returning to Spain to manage Villarreal.

Olympiacos suffered after Valverde’s departure, so they appointed him again as the team manager in 2010 and stayed there for two years.

Valverde had great memories in Athens with Olympiacos, where he won five out of six titles.

He also won the Superleague Greece three times — in 2009, 2011 and 2012 — and the Greek Football Cup in 2009 and 2012.

Valverde will continue this week recalling old memories. He returned on Saturday to Basque Country to meet the team he previously managed before Barcelona: Athletic Bilbao. Barcelona won the game 2-0.
