CAIRO – 28 October 2017: Al Ahly faces Wydad Casablanca from Morocco on Saturday night at Borg El Arab stadium at CAF Champions League final first leg. The game is very important for Ahly manager Hossam El Badry, who is looking for his sixth title win.
El Badry is an Ahly academy product. He joined the club at the age of 10 and was promoted through the club rankings until he joined the first team squad in 1978.
El Badry won his first Champions League title in 1982 as a player after defeating Ghana’s Asante Kotoko and it was the first title for Al Ahly in the competition.
El Badry’s injury forced him to retire at 26 and his time with Ahly as a player came to an, end but he started his managing career inside Ahly.
El Badry joined first team staff in 2002 under Portuguese manager Manuel Jose and became a regular member of the staff.
El Badry won three Champions League titles with Ahly in 2005, 2006 and 2008 as an assistant coach to Manuel Jose.
El Badry became the first man on Ahly’s bench in 2010. He failed to win that competition won his first African title as coach and his fifth collectively in 2012 after beating Esperance from Tunisia. He is looking for his sixth title win, and Ahly’s ninth competition title.
