CAIRO – 28 October 2017: Egyptian fans are preparing themselves to watch the African-Arabian clash between Al Ahly from Egypt and Wydad Athletic from Morocco.
Both teams are set to meet in the first-leg final of CAF African Champions League which will be held at Borg Al Arab stadium on Sunday at 7 a.m. Cairo Local time.
Al Ahly hopes to achieve a comfortable victory to make the second leg of the match in Morocco easier. The second leg will be held on November 4 at Stade Mohammed V.
The red giants are looking to secure the ninth African title in history and also the historical “Treble,” as it could be their third consecutive title win.
Al Ahly won the 2016/2017 Egyptian League when they succeeded to end the competition four rounds before its end. Also, Al Ahly won the Egyptian Cup after they defeated Al Masry club 2-1 in the final. Now, Al Ahly hopes to win the African title and combine the three titles together for the third time in their history.
Al Ahly is the only club in Africa who achieved the ‘Treble’ two times before when Manuel Jose, Al Ahly`s former coach, led the Egyptian team to attain it in seasons 2005/2006 and 2006/2007.
In 2005/2006, Al Ahly won the Egyptian League 14 points above Zamalek before defeating the White giants in the Egyptian Cup final 3-0.
Al Ahly succeeded to win the 4th African title when they defeated Etoile du Sahel 3-0 in the final, securing their first “Treble.”
In 2006/2007, Al Ahly won the Egyptian League 5 points ahead Zamalek before defeating the same opponent 4-3 in the Egyptian Cup final.
Al Ahly then won the fifth African title when they shocked Club Sportif Sfaxien 1-0 in the final minutes of CAF Champions League final thanks to Mohamed Abou Treka.
In 2016/2017, Al Ahly again won the double (Egyptian League – Egyptian Cup) and is expected to win the ninth African title.
