CAIRO –24 October 2017: Chairman of Etoile du Sahel Ridha Charfeddine has apologized to fans after their 6-2 humiliation by Al-Ahly at Borg El Arab Stadium.
The Tunisian side was knocked out of the semi-final of the 2017 CAF Champions League after losing 7-4 on aggregate to Al-Ahly on Sunday.
The Tunisian chairman congratulated the Red Devils, who reached the final of the tournament for the 11th time in their history. They’ll now be looking to claim the title, which they last won in 2013, for the 9th time.
Charfeddine said that the result doesn’t make a difference in such games, but the qualification is what matters.
“I’m not worried about the result, but about the style of play and the players’ performance. They didn’t perform well today,” Charfeddine said.
“We’ll evaluate the reasons behind what happened today. In a different situation, Etoile wouldn’t have conceded all of these goals.”
“Al-Ahly is a big team and Etoile is a big team, but this is football,” he added.
The 65-year-old chairman promised Etoile fans to work harder in the future and said he’ll hold those responsible for the defeat accountable.
