CAIRO – 22 October 2017: Barcelona’s manager, Ernesto Valverde, backed Barcelona's striker Luis Suarez against fans' criticisms that he does not score enough goals.
Suarez has been suffering since the season began; scoring only three goals after nine fixtures in the Spanish League.
“The more chances Suarez misses, the better; it means he is always in the right place," Valverde told the press on Saturday.
Suarez failed to score for Barcelona in their 2-0 victory over Malaga, despite many opportunities.
“Suarez is such a good player and the best thing about our strikers is that they always get a lot of opportunities, he wants a goal and he will get one in the end,” Valverde said.
Valverde substituted Suarez five minutes before the final whistle and he gave Paco Alcacer the chance to play.
Barcelona tops the Spanish League with 25 points after nine fixtures; they are four points away from the second-placed Valencia.
