CAIRO – 21 October 2017:Mesut Özil is preparing to leave Arsenal. According to the Daily Mirror, the German midfielder told his teammates that his next destination will be Manchester United.

Özil, who lost his starting position at Arsenal, ends his contract with the Gunners at the end of this season.

The player, at the time, asked for a salary of 390,000 euros per week to renew his contract. The club offered him a salary of 305 thousand euros per week, and there was no agreement. This was an offer that now seems to have cooled because the club could opt to transfer to the next market in January, rather than lose it in June without receiving any financial compensation.

In fact, last week, Arsene Wenger admitted the possibility of ending up selling Özil in January, as it may happen with Alexis Sánchez.

These talks open the door to the possibility that the German player might end up in to one of Arsenal's biggest rivals, such as Manchester United.

Man United are favorites to reach an agreement in January for the signing of Özil, of whom Jose Mourinho has publicly stated that he considers him as the best 10 players in the world.

Mourinho coached Özil for three seasons at Real Madrid, and their relationship has been amicable over the last few years. And it should not be forgotten that for Mourinho, the hiring of Özil would also mean a direct setback to Wenger, with whom he does not have a good relationship.
