CAIRO – 13 October 2017: Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abo Rida praised Mohamed Salah leading the Egyptian national team to qualify to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
“He is a real leader inside the pitch; he has the respect of his teammates,” Abo Rida said on Thursday to the radio.
Salah scored two goals in a 2-1 victory over Congo on Sunday, October 8, to secure Egypt’s qualification to the World Cup after 28 years of absence, as Egypt last played in the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
Asked about the possibility of Salah being Egypt’s captain in the World Cup, Abo Rida said, “I think it is impossible.”
He joked about the consequences of this decision saying, “Essam El Hadary would kidnap him.”
El Hadary, 44, is the captain of the Egyptian national team, and he could be the oldest player to play in the World Cup if he participated with the his team in Russia.
