CAIRO – 10 October 2017: The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has expressed its happiness that Egypt is back in the World Cup finals, a FIFA spokesperson told Egypt Today Tuesday.
In an email interview, the spokesperson said that FIFA congratulates all 17 teams qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup so far.
“Together with hosts Russia, FIFA is looking forward to welcoming fans from all over the world at next year's tournament,” the spokesperson said.
Egypt has qualified to the World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years after the national football team scored a 2-1 victory over Congo Sunday evening at Borg El Arab Stadium.
All the match’s goals came in the second 45 minutes; as Liverpool’s star Mohamed Salah scored the two goals for Egypt, while midfielder Francisco Román scored Congo’s only goal.
The Pharaohs collected 12 points from five matches against Congo, Ghana and Uganda, sending the Egyptian team to the World Cup finals.
Following the historical win, Egyptians took to the streets with fireworks and blaring horns, celebrating the win and turning the streets red, white and black.
