CAIRO – 5 October 2017 : The FIFA U-17 World Cup starts on Friday in India when New Zealand faces Turkey in Group B before the official opening with the host nation, India, playing against USA in Group A.

India, who is hosting the event for the first time in history, plays in Group A alongside USA, Ghana and Colombia, while Turkey plays in Group B alongside New Zealand, Paraguay and Mali.

Germany plays in Group C alongside Guinea, Iran and Costa Rica, while Brazil plays in Group D alongside Spain, Niger and Korea DPR.

France plays in Group E alongside Honduras, Japan and New Caledonia, while the only Arab country in the event, Iraq, plays in Group F alongside Chile, Mexico and England.

India is hosting the tournament in six cities: Kolkata, Navi Mumbai, Goa, Kuchi, Guwahati and the Indian capital, New Delhi.

It is good to mention that Nigeria holds the record of winning the title five times – in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.

India hosts the competition from October 6-22.
