Mohamed El Shorbagy lifts the title, PSA World Tour official website
CAIRO – 1 October 2017: Mohamed El Shorbagy won the Squash Oracle NetSuite Open title in squash after defeating his Egyptian opponent, Karim Abdel Gawad on Sunday morning.
Shorbagy, ranked third in the world, and will appear in a second successive PSA World Tour final after he overcame last year's runner-up James Willstrop. They faced off during the last four Oracle NetSuite Opens in San Francisco.
Shorbagy had not beaten Gawad in over a year, losing to his compatriot twice in the meantime, but he outclassed the World’s No.2PFR this time around. He competed by playing with a stunning attacking force to record an 11-9, 11-6, 11-3 triumph. He won his 26th tour title and won the lion’s share of the $100,000 prize fund.
The 26-year-old stated after the finals on the PSA World Tour official website that, “I’m really happy, it’s only my first tournament of the season and I think it’s the first time in my life that I have won the first tournament.”
“I’ve put in a lot of work this summer and there is nothing in my mind apart from getting back to World No.1 this season. I’m going to do everything I can to get back to where I feel I should be,” he added.
