CAIRO – 29 September 2017: Atletico Madrid player Saúl Ñíguez revealed his willingness to the English Premier League at age 16, but he preferred to play for his current Spanish team in an interview with the Daily Mail.

“I was close to signing with Fulham when I was 16,” he said. “They were playing in the Premier League, and their coach was Mark Hughes.”

“I was close to moving to them, and they put me in a special program to go for three months to play directly in the matches, but I preferred to move to the second team at Atletico Madrid.”

Fulham is currently 11th in the championship after 10 rounds.

Saúl has been included in the Atletico Madrid youth team until he reached the first team, playing a total of 155 matches and scoring 22 goals.

Saúl renewed his contract with Atletico Madrid until 2026.
