Catalan flag will be in our hearts: Barcelona VP

CAIRO – 27 September 2017: Barcelona will not be able to wear a special shirt in the colors of the Catalonia flag “Senyera” when Barcelona meets Las Palmas on Sunday, October 1, which is the same day as Catalonia's independence referendum vote.


“We will not go out with the 'Senyera’, but we will have it on the neck of the shirt and in our hearts,” Barcelona Vice President Jordi Cardoner said.


Cardoner believes that Sunday is of huge importance for Catalonia. He said, “Sunday is not a normal day; it is an important day in the history of our country, but football cannot be affected by it."


FC Barcelona announced on Wednesday, September 20 their support for the will of the majority of the Catalan people in an official statement.


Cardoner added; “Despite what is happening on Sunday in the country, on Sunday we have to concentrate on the match and try to win. We call for respect and harmony, but apart from that, everyone can express themselves."
