CAIRO –22 September 2017: Argentinean club River Plate thrashed Bolivian club Jorge Wilstermann 8-0 in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores on Thursday evening.
Jorge Wilstermann won 3-0 on Friday, September 15 in the first leg in Bolivia; however, River Plate had a remarkable rematch in Buenos Aires by scoring four goals in each period. Ignacio Scocco, 32 years old, the new striker from Newell's Old Boy, scored five goals for his team to be named “Man of Match”.
In the other quarter-final of the evening, Lanus succeeded to qualify over San Lorenzo in the 100% Argentinean derby. They tied in the aggregate score, as each team won 2-0 in its leg. Lanus won the penalty kicks 4-3.
River Plate is set to meet Lanus in the semi–final, and the second match will be between Gremio from Brazil and Barcelona from Ecuador.
