CAIRO – 16 September 2016: The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday that 10 German venues among 14 applications were chosen for the Euro 2024 bid. Germany is competing with Turkey to host the Euro 2024.

“I would like to thank the representatives of all 14 cities and stadiums who have applied for the event,“ DFB President Reinhard Grindel told DFB’s official website on Friday.

The ten chosen venues for the event, besides the country’s capital, Berlin, are Cologne, Munich, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Düsseldorf, Hamburg. The four excluded venues are Bremen, Nuremberg, Monchengladbach and Hannover.

Grindel added, “I hope that the four unaccompanied applicants will continue to support our common goal of the Euro 2024.”

Germany hopes to host the event for the second time after they hosted it in 1988 when the German team was eliminated from the semi-finals by the title winners, the Netherlands.

Germany won the European title three times: in 1972, 1980 and 1996.
