CAIRO - 7 September 2017: Egyptian National Team goalkeeper, Essam al-Hadary defended his coach, Héctor Cúper against the criticism he faced after Egypt’s 1-0 victory over Uganda on Tuesday, as a lot of fans criticized Cúper.
“It is impossible for a coach to use a defensive tactic while having players like Mohamed Salah, Abdallah al-Saeed, Ramadan Sobhy and Mahmoud Kahraba,” Hadary said during an interview with ON Sport Channel on Wednesday.
Hadary, 44, captained the national team against Uganda; he is expected to be Cúper’s first choice for if the Egyptian team makes it to the World Cup.
Hadary explained the poor performance against Uganda by saying, “Maybe the pressure on the players affected their performance, but we did the most important thing which is gaining the three points. In games like these you need to win more than you need to perform.”
Hadary finished his statement by saying, “We need your support to qualify to the World Cup.”
Hadary travelled to Saudi Arabia after Uganda’s game to join his club Al-Taawon.
