CAIRO - 25 August 2017: The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) president, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, believes that Egypt has the facilities to host 2025 IAAF World Athletics Championships. Malboum spoke on Thursday.
“We are talking with Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, those countries have the facilities,” Malboum told BBC.
Malboum, 66 years old, added “I have very positive sounds from some of them.”
Africa will bid to host the most important Athletics Championship in 2025 through one of these six countries for the first time in the history of the continent.
Malboum believes that Africa can host such a big event; he said “People said that Africa could not host the World Cup in football, but we did it very successfully.”
South Africa hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup for the first time in Africa in one of the most successful tournaments in the history of FIFA World Cups.
Africa’s desire to host the 2025 IAAF World Athletics Championships is supported by the IAAF president, Sebastian Coe. “President Coe is supporting the fact that Africa could host the World Championships," Malboum said.
Malboum is also the IAAF vice president.
