CAIRO – 22 August 2017: The women's basketball team lost to Senegal (93-61) on Tuesday noon in the fourth round of the Women’s Afrobasket hosted by Mali from August 18 -27.

Egypt won the first round over the Democratic Republic of Congo with a (99-72) victory, then a victory in the second round against Guinea with a score of (109-78), and a loss from Nigeria in the third round with a score of (106-72).

Afrobasket contains 12 competing teams divided into two groups, each group includes six teams. The national team is in the second group alongside Senegal, Guinea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and Mozambique, while the first group includes Central Africa, Tunisia, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Angola, as well as host country Mali.

The national team's list includes Mai Helwa, Mennatullah Awad, Noor Talaat, Radwa Salem, Reem Usama, Manar Ehab, Miral Ashraf, Asrar Maged, Rana Abdel Zaher and Thuraya Abdel Maqsoud. They are accompanied by Amr Ashour as head coach, Hani Hassan as coach, Aya Shawqi the team’s doctor, and Sara Gamal as an accompanying referee. The Egyptian delegation for Afrobasket is headed by Nabil Hafez, the member of the board of directors of Egyptian Basketball Federation.
