Tori Bowie ends the race with a dive - Reuters
CAIRO - 8 August 2017: American sprinter Tori Bowie won the 100-meter gold medal on Sunday night at the IAAF World Championships in Atheltics.
Bowie clocked 10.85 seconds to end the race first, while the Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou won the silver, and Dutch Dafne Schippers won the bronze medal.
“I never give up until I'm over the line. Ta Lou went away fast, but she always does. It didn't bother me, and I just kept pumping my legs and arms until the finish,” Bowie told reporters after the race.
Bowie, who won silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics, ended the race with a dive that caused her a slight injury. She commented, “The dive doesn't feel too good now. But that has saved me at championships in the past. I've got a couple of days to recover before the 200 heats, so I'll be okay."
Rio Olympics gold medal winner Elaine Thompson from Jamaica finished the race in fifth place to complete the Jamaican disappointment at the event after Usain Bolt failed to win the gold medal in the men’s 100-meter.
London is hosting World Championships in Athletics from August 4-13.
