CAIRO – 7 August 2017: Executive director of the Egyptian National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) Osama Ghunaim said on Sunday that the International Volleyball Federation commissioned the organization to detect steroids in the U-23 World Cup hosted by Egypt.

NADO is a government-funded organization responsible for testing national athletes in-and-out of competition, as well as athletes from other countries competing within that nation’s borders, adjudicating anti-doping rules violations and anti-doping education.
The tournament will held from August 16-26 at Cairo Stadium’s covered halls.

Ghoneim said, “The organization will play an important role in the Volleyball World Cup. We received a letter from the International Federation asking us to take samples from the participating players, but the required samples have not been determined, nor the tournament roles in which samples will be taken.”

He pointed out that the equipped rooms for taking the samples at Cairo Stadium are the same as used in the 2016 African Handball Championship and the World Junior Basketball World Cup last month.

The championship includes 12 teams divided into two groups. The first group includes Egypt, Poland, Japan, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico, while the other group includes Turkey, Russia, Argentina, Algeria, China and Iran.
