Holland defeated Denmark 4-2 and achieved their first title - UEFA Twitter Account
CAIRO -7 August 2017: The Netherlands defeated Denmark 4-2 on Sunday and achieved their first UEFA title in the competition hosted by their home land. The Dutch ladies completed their amazing run with the championship title.
The Dutch began the match trying to score the first goal in a stadium packed with their fans, but Denmark opened the score with a penalty by Nadia Nadim just after four minutes. The Dutch waited only five minutes to equalize the score by Vivianne Miedema.
The second goal came by way of Lieke Martens. She scored from a great strike from outside the area at the 28th minute. Denmark gave the host just five minutes to celebrate. Pernille Harder scored the equalizer for Denmark to end the first half 2-2.
The Netherlands dominated the second half. Sherida Spitse scored the third goal; Vivianne Miedema scored her second and the fourth for the Dutch to secure the victory.
The final game was witnessed by 28,182 fans at De Grolsch Veste in Enschede. It is a new record for Dutch attendance at a women’s football match.
The Netherlands hosted the competition from July 16 - August 6. The event ended well for the Dutch after winning their first title.
