Paris will host the games after a century of absence – Paris2024.org
CAIRO - 1 August 2017: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday chose Paris as the location for the 2024 Olympic Games, after Los Angeles had agreed to host the 2028 Olympic Games.
Last June, Los Angeles (LA) requested to host 2024 Olympic Games, but the IOC announced that Paris and Los Angeles are the favorites and that there would be no losers as one of them will choose to host 2024 and the other 2028.
“The IOC welcomes this decision of the Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympics Candidature Committee, and we are pleased to release the Host City contract 2028 in a transparent and timely manner," Thomas Bach, IOC president stated in an official statement.
“I want to acknowledge and thank our competitors along the way and honor their Olympic dreams as well, and IOC for being such a great partner,” LA Bid Team Chairman, Casey Wasserman commented after the decision.
Los Angeles will host the summer Games for the third time after previous runs in 1932 and 1984; Paris will host the Games for a third time, nearly a century after their hosting in 1900 and 1924.
