CAIRO – 31 July 2017: The Ministry of Youth and Sports congratulated Farida Osman on Sunday after gaining Egypt’s first medal in the history of the World Swimming Championships.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Khaled Abdel Aziz acknowledged the hard work of Farida Osman after winning the bronze medal in the women’s 50 meter butterfly race on July 29 at the 2017 World Swimming Championships held in Budapest, Hungry.

Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjoestroem won the Gold Medal finishing at 24.60 seconds, while Dutch swimmer Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the Silver medal, achieving 25.38 seconds.

The 22-year-old was very close to taking second place, missing the opportunity by 0.01 seconds and finishing the race at 25.39 seconds.

Osman, hold the African record in the 100 meter butterfly, but failed to qualify for the semifinals after finishing the race in the 25th position.

Budapest hosted the 2017 World Aquatics Championships from July 14-30.
