Zamalek hopes to qualify for the second round decreased after Al-Ahed loss – Egypt today
CAIRO - 27 July 2017: Zamalek lost their second match in Arab Club Championship to Lebanese side, Al-Ahed 1-0 on Wednesday night in Alexandria to decrease their chances to qualify for the second round.
Both teams started the game trying to score the first goal to have the upper hand, but despite Zamalek's chances, their strikers failed to score a goal.
The second half was different for Al-Ahed, they started attacking Zamalek till Ahmed Zreik scored a late goal to give the Lebanese side the game points.
“It was a tough game, Zamalek is a big team, the draw in first half was our key to win the game, I kept Zreik on the bench in the first half to keep his fresh legs for the second half,” Al -Ahed manager, Moussa Hojeij spoke after the victory.
Mortada Mansour, Zamalek Chairman, was unhappy after Al-Ahed goal; he threw bottles on Zamalek coach, Augusto Inacio.
Zamalek decreases their hopes to qualify for the second round after a draw in the first game and today’s loss, to share the bottom with Saudi Arabian team, Al-Nassr, one point each.
Al-Fatih Union shares the top rank with Al-Ahed with 4 points each and both teams meet in their last group match on Saturday.
Egypt hosts Arab Club Championship from July 22 to August 5 in Cairo and Alexandria , 12 Arab clubs are competing to win the title.
