CAIRO –25 July 2017: After Benjamin Mendy’s transfer to Manchester City with a record deal of £52 million ($67.7 million), Egypt Today decided to look back at City’s spending on their back line.

Manchester City spent £307 million in the past few years only on their back line. The club, known as the Citizens, spent £50 million purchasing two goalkeepers.

The club’s transfer fee of £35 million to Benfica’s former goalkeeper made Ederson Santana de Moraes the world’s most expensive goalkeeper. Aside from Ederson, Manchester City bought Claudio Bravo from Barcelona after paying Barcelona £15 million.

Moving on to the right backs, Kyle Walker became the most expensive right back after being bought from Tottenham Hotspur in a £50 million deal. City also signed Danilo Luiz da Silva from Real Madrid after agreeing to pay £27 million.

When it comes to center backs, Manchester City has one of the most expensive center backs after buying John Stones from Everton FC, paying £48 million for the Englishman.

City also shelled out £42 million to bring on former Porto player Eliaquim Mangala.

Additionally,, Argentinean defender Nicolás Otamendi left Valencia after the Spanish club agreed on a £38 million transfer fee with Manchester City officials.

Lastly, AS Monaco’s former left back, Benjamin Mendy, became the most expensive left back after signing with Manchester City, in a deal reported to be around £52 million.

Manchester City became the first club in the history of the Premier League to spend more than £200 million in one transfer window, purchasing Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Ederson, Douglas Luiz, Danilo and Kyle Walker.
