CAIRO – 11 August 2024: The United Media Services (UMS) has extended congratulations to Egyptian modern pentathlete Ahmed El-Gendy and weightlifter Sara Samir for their exceptional triumphs at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Gendy brought pride to every Egyptian by clinching the gold medal in modern pentathlon on Saturday, becoming the first African athlete to achieve such a victory with a world record of 1,555 points.
This victory followed Sara Samir's silver in weightlifting earlier on Saturday and Mohamed El-Sayed's bronze in fencing in the late July.
In a Facebook statement, UMS highlighted that Samir's achievement "sends a powerful message to the youth of Egypt, both male and female, demonstrating that dreams come true with will, persistence, and determination."
Congratulating Gendy, the UMS emphasized that his achievement "will remain etched in Egypt's Olympic history as he succeeded in securing the gold medal, raising the name and flag of Egypt high in the French capital."
The UMS praised Gendy, noting that he serves as a role model for Egyptian youth in terms of determination, persistence, and strong will.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi conveyed his congratulations to Gendy, Samir and Sayed on Saturday, praising them for elevating Egypt's name on the global stage.
“This new accomplishment adds to the achievements of this generation, highlighting the determination, perseverance, and strength of will of the youth of Egypt,” Sisi wrote in a social media post.
He lauded their achievements as “a source of pride for our beloved nation.”
