(Reuters) - Napoli have signed defender Leonardo Spinazzola on a free transfer, the Serie A club said on Wednesday.

No details were given, but Italian media reported the 31-year-old has penned a two-year contract after leaving AS Roma last month, having played 151 matches for the club.

Spinazzola was part of the Italy team who won the European Championship in 2021 but has recently struggled with injuries that have restricted his time on the field.

It was the first major signing for Napoli coach Antonio Conte, who was appointed in June after a lacklustre season in which three managers came and went and the team finished 10th in Serie A.
