CAIRO – 19 July 2017: Dutch swimmer Ferry Weertman won the 10km gold medal on Tuesday at the 2017 Budapest Swimming Championship. Weertman added the gold medal to his 10km Olympic gold medal from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Weertman, 25 years old, finished at 01:51:58:05, 0.7 seconds ahead of the silver medal winner, Jordan Wilimovsky. Meanwhile, the bronze medal went to French swimmer Marc-Antoine Olivier.

Weertman became the first Dutchman to win a 10km gold medal in the Swimming Championship since their first participation in 2001, according to Marca.com.

Jordan Wilimovsky, who won the 10km gold medal in the 2015 Kazan Swimming Championship, failed to win the competition again.

Marc-Antoine Olivier became the first Frenchman to win two medals in one event after he added the 10km bronze medal to the 5km gold medal he won earlier this week, according to charlotteobserver.com.

The women’s 5km event will be on Wednesday, while the main swimming program will start on Sunday.

The FINA World Championship is being held in Budapest, Hungary from July 14-30, 2017.
