Mohamed Salah – Liverpool’s Facebook Page
CAIRO – 19 July2017: Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, spoke on July 17 about Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah.
Talking to the press in Hong Kong, Klopp backed Salah to flourish during his time at Liverpool. He also talked about what made him sign Salah and why Salah struggled to prove himself at Chelsea.
"A lot of players have shown it is quite easy to struggle at Chelsea. [Kevin] De Bruyne is one," Klopp said, reporting from Liverpool Echo.
"The only thing that we really ignored was what he did at Chelsea. When he [Mohamed Salah] was at Basel, we [Jurgen Klopp was the coach of Dortmund at the time] played them and we didn't know him. It was 'what the f---?' It was unbelievable. The moment I said, 'let's go for him', he was already at Chelsea,” Klopp said, according to ESPN.
Klopp continued addressing how Salah played an essential role with the Egyptian national team in the last African Cup of Nations.
"He was involved in pretty much everything for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations," Klopp said, according to ESPN.
"He had the free kick also. He is a left-footed player, and we don't have too many of them on the team. It all makes him really valuable for us. I'm happy for the moment, but he needs to learn a lot. We have to start working on the physical part and the technical part,” Klopp concluded his talk, reporting from ESPN.
As referenced from whoscored.com, Salah, who recently joined Liverpool, played 43 matches with Roma last season, managing to score 19 goals and make 12 assists.
