Al Ahly defeated Zamalek 24-21 on Friday night at the last round of the Egyptian League to win the competition's title for the first time since 2018.
The Red Eagles, who needed just a draw to be crowned champions, put an end to Zamalek's dominance over the competition in the previous four seasons.
After a 12-12 draw in the first half, Al Ahly players put on a solid performance in the second half and had the upper hand thanks to a performance to remember from their goalkeeper Abdelrahman Homayed, who made many important saves to guide his team to the title.
"It is a very important victory. We needed that title and we fought to win it. We promise our fans that we will always do everything to make them happy." Eslam Hassan, the team captain, stated after the game.
Al Ahly will host the CAF Super Cup tournament and the African Clubs Championship in May.
The Red Eagles hope to defend their Super Cup title and secure their place in the IHF Super Globe for the second straight year and win the African championship title after finishing third in the previous competition.
