Egypt leads its group in U-16 African Basketball Championship

CAIRO –17 July 2017: The Egyptian national U-16 basketball team defeated Algeria on Monday (65-49) in the fourth round of the African U-16 Basketball Championship. The championship continues in Mauritius until July 22.

Egypt had beaten Algeria at the end of the third round with a score of 84–61. The Egyptian team will play against Rwanda on Wednesday at 4 pm in the fifth round. Egypt leads Group B in the championship, after beating Algeria home and away. The national team also defeated Madagascar and Rwanda.

All the teams play with the system of home and away, and the first two teams of each group will qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the first two teams of the entire tournament will qualify for the 2018 Junior World Cup. The cup will be held in Argentina.

The Egyptian delegation is headed by head coach Fadiy Hany. The team consists of these 12 players: Mohamed Ahmed Desouki, Omar Tarek Samir, Morsi Ali Abdel Rahman, Ziad Ahmed Saqr, Youssef Osama El Madawy, Ahmed Assem Raafat, Mahmoud Hassan Nour El Din, Youssef Mahmoud Lehitta, Mohammed Ahmed Tobgy, Mo'men Mohamed Musa, Yassin Mohammed Nabil and Mazen Mohammed Saeed, according to Super Kora.
