Dubai - American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, knocked out Romanian Ana Bogdan 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Championships.
Pegula needed two straight sets to win the match 6-4, 6-3. She’ll face the winner of the match between Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 8 seed, and Czech Karolina Muchova in the next round.
When asked about her envision of the future of the sport, Pegula replied" I mean, I hope obviously we can keep pushing for equal prize money at all events. Being on TV more. I feel like as far as me being on player council, we already tried to do a lot of that. I think we're starting to see slowly, like, more of it, especially with United Cup, the response of everyone wanting to see men and women playing on the same court, on the same team, which was really fun for us. Also people just love to see that."
"But as far as the future, like, that's always what we're pushing for, is just for people to appreciate us playing and wanting to see us play and getting more exposure, then obviously inspiring the next generation of girls that want to do the same thing. Obviously without the past generation, we wouldn't be here, as well." She added.
Pegula, will play Karolina Muchova next round.
